From the page: The plastic bag deserves a second life

Idea 7

Firm organizer from the block

Medium 2 h

Once the fused plastic cools, it behaves like an industrial board: it can be cut, drilled and assembled almost like wood. Upcycling artisans use this property to create desk organizers with no glue at all, taking advantage of the material's slight flexibility for joints that hold firm on their own.

What you need

  • 2 or 3 pressed plastic blocks (from the previous idea)
  • Craft knife or fine-tooth saw
  • Ruler and pencil
  • Medium-grit sandpaper
  • Heated punch or screw with a drill (optional)
  • Stool or firm surface for cutting

How to make it

  1. 1

Draw the organizer's pieces on the block: a rectangular base (about 20 × 12 cm) and vertical dividers from the same plastic — planning ahead avoids wasting sheet material.

  2. 2

Cut with a craft knife, passing several times over the same line, or with a fine-tooth saw in slow movements, because the plastic melts if you rush the cut.

  3. 3

Sand the edges of all the pieces to remove burrs and make the joints cleaner and safer to the touch.

  4. 4

Mark on the base where the dividers will fit and make straight cuts there as wide as the sheet's thickness, forming cross-fitting slots, like a puzzle.

  5. 5

Assemble the dividers into the slots, testing the fit; if it's loose, a drop of hot glue underneath fixes it instantly.

  6. 6

If you want a hanging version, pierce the top edges with a heated punch (a nail heated in a flame makes the hole without cracking) and thread string or wire through.

Finishing touches

leave one divider taller for pens and another lower for clips, creating visual rhythm in the piece. Sanding the whole surface with fine sandpaper gives a satin finish that hides the iron marks.
