From the page: Banana peels are pure gold
Idea 8
Wooden furniture polish
Banana peels carry oils, potassium, and natural waxes that, when rubbed onto wood, nourish it and enhance the shine of the varnish. It was an old trick for caring for dark wooden furniture without spending on expensive products — the friction warms the waxes and they fill in micro-scratches on the surface.
What you need
- Banana peels (preferably very ripe, yellowed on the inside)
- Soft cotton cloth
- Clean dry cloth for polishing
How to make it
-
1
Cut small pieces of the peel, always from the inner side (the yellow one), because that's where the oils and wax that act on the wood are.
-
2
Rub the piece directly on the furniture's surface, in gentle circular motions, to spread the oils and fill in micro-scratches.
-
3
Let it sit for about 20 minutes: that's the time it takes for the natural oils to penetrate the surface.
-
4
Go over it with the dry cloth to add shine, removing all residue — the final polish is what brings out the luster.
Finishing touches
Test on a hidden corner of the furniture first to see how the wood reacts. Repeat once a month and your dark furniture will keep looking like new.
