Apple cider vinegar rinse
The acidic rinse is a grandmother's secret that became a favorite of anyone seeking naturally shiny hair. Apple cider vinegar has an acidic pH (around 3), which closes the hair cuticles — those invisible scales that stay open after shampooing — leaving hair smooth, aligned and reflecting more light.
What you need
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup of filtered water, or boiled and cold water
- 1 bottle or small bottle with a lid for mixing
- Clean towel
How to make it
-
1
Prepare the dilution by mixing 2 tablespoons of vinegar into 1 cup of water — pure vinegar is too strong and can dry out the scalp, which is why the water is essential.
-
2
Wash your hair with your usual shampoo and rinse well, because the acidic rinse works on clean hair.
-
3
Pour the mixture slowly over wet hair, from root to tip, massaging gently — this way every strand receives the acid that will align the cuticles.
-
4
Let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes while you finish your shower.
-
5
Rinse with a stream of cold or cool water — the cold helps close the scales of the strand even further.
-
6
Dry with a towel without rubbing, pressing gently so as not to ruffle the newly aligned cuticles.
Finishing touches
Use it once a week, as excess can dry out hair that is already dry or chemically treated. Store the mixture in the refrigerator for up to a week and do the touch test on your inner arm before the first application.
