From the page: Glass that was waiting for a second chance
Idea 6
Color bottle: china cabinet décor
A collection of colorful bottles lined up by the window is a tradition in country houses in southern France and Tuscany: when the sun hits, the green and amber glass projects patches of color on the wall, like a household stained-glass window. Collecting shapes is almost everyday archaeology — each bottle design tells of the era and the brand that created it, and grouped together they become sculpture.
What you need
- Assorted bottles in color and height
- A shelf near a window or a wooden base
- Microfiber cloth and vinegar for a streak-free clean
How to make it
-
1
Wash the bottles inside and out; warm vinegar removes label residue and old contents. Clean glass is what gives that display-case shine.
-
2
Remove paper labels with warm soapy water; press on durable stickers with your fingers if you want parts glued together.
-
3
Group at alternating heights: one tall in the center, two medium on each side, one low in front — a triangular composition the eye finds natural.
-
4
Place against the light: the more direct sunlight, the more the colored shadows project onto the wall.
Finishing touches
place a string of LED night lights behind for the stained-glass effect at night. Mixing frosted glass with clear adds texture without becoming clutter.
