From the page: Leftover chocolate, sweet possibilities
Idea 2
Leftover brigadeiros
The brigadeiro was born in the 1940s, when condensed milk became popular in Brazil and imported chocolate was expensive because of the war — mixing the two into little party sweets was a creative way to make things stretch. At its heart, it's a leftovers recipe: it uses little, yields a lot, and welcomes any chocolate sitting in your pantry.
What you need
- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
- Leftover chocolate (about 100 g chopped, or 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder)
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- Sprinkles, cocoa, or chopped nuts for rolling
How to make it
-
1
Put the condensed milk and butter over low heat in a heavy-bottomed pot — the thick bottom keeps it from scorching underneath while the top is still raw.
-
2
Add the chopped chocolate and stir nonstop; the chocolate's fat makes the brigadeiro glossier and softer.
-
3
Cook until the mixture pulls away from the bottom when you tilt the pot (about 8 to 10 minutes).
-
4
Transfer to a greased plate and let it cool completely — hot dough melts in your hands.
-
5
Butter your hands, roll into balls, and coat in sprinkles.
Finishing touches
Didn't reach rolling consistency? You just made cake frosting. Every texture mistake becomes a different sweet.
