From the page: A second life for torn clothes
Idea 3
All-purpose closet cloth
Everyone used to have the "rag drawer" at home, a direct legacy of last century's household economy. Old cotton and fleece work very well because natural fibers have capillary structure — microscopic channels that pull in liquid and hold dust through static attraction, something synthetic cloth does worse.
What you need
- Old t-shirts and towels
- Scissors
- Ruler or measuring tape (optional)
How to make it
-
1
Cut the clothes into 20 to 30 cm squares — that size fits nicely in the hand and on a glass.
-
2
Skip seams and buttons, which can scratch surfaces.
-
3
Keep the softest ones (for glass and mirrors) separate from the rougher ones (for floors and the fridge).
-
4
Store them in a basket that's easy to reach in the laundry area.
Finishing touches
cotton cloths go through the washing machine and come back into action dozens of times. When they're too worn out, they become the raw material for the rug below.
