From the page: A second life for torn clothes
Idea 4
Fragrant sachets
Herb sachets date back to ancient Egypt, when clothes were stored with aromatic plants against moths and moisture. How they work is simple: the herbs release volatile oils that evaporate slowly through the porous fabric, scenting the space and repelling insects with zero chemicals.
What you need
- Soft cotton scraps
- Rosemary, lavender, cinnamon sticks, cloves, or dried orange peel
- Thread and needle, or ribbon for tying
- Scissors
How to make it
-
1
Cut two identical fabric squares, about 10 cm per side.
-
2
Sew three sides with simple stitches, turning right side out to hide the seams.
-
3
Fill with the dried herb mix without packing it too tightly — air needs to circulate for the scent to escape.
-
4
Close the fourth side by sewing or tying with ribbon.
-
5
Place in drawers, the closet, or inside a pillow.
Finishing touches
rub the sachets between your fingers now and then to "wake up" the herbs' oils. Refill every two or three months with fresh herbs.
