From the page: Plastic containers full of possibility
Idea 9
Cord and tool organizer
The golden rule of organization, popularized by carpenters and workshops around the world, is that a visible tool is a used tool — the wall full of containers with nails and screws in old hardware stores is a portrait of that. Plastic containers are light, don't break if dropped and let you see the contents, which is exactly what a messy drawer doesn't allow.
What you need
- Containers of various sizes, cleaned
- Labels and permanent marker
- Small nails or screws
- A shelf or board to mount them on (optional)
How to make it
-
1
Sort the mess by type: cords, nails, screws, batteries, tape — each category deserves its own container.
-
2
Label each container with the contents' name in large letters, visible without having to pick it up.
-
3
If you want to hang them, screw the lids upside down under a shelf and twist the containers onto them — the containers hang like lanterns.
-
4
Store cords wrapped with a rubber band around them so they don't tangle.
Finishing touches
The hanging version under the shelf is great for workshops and laundry areas — you see the contents from above and unscrew only what you need.
