Shell body scrub

Easy 30 min

The eggshell is basically calcium carbonate, the same mineral used in old scrubs made of ground pumice stone. When pulverized very fine, it removes dead skin cells mechanically, with no harsh chemicals — which is why country folk and grandmothers already used this trick generations ago.

What you need

  • Shells from 4 to 6 eggs, well washed
  • A small baking sheet
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (or olive oil, or another vegetable oil you have at home)
  • A mortar, tamper or old blender to grind
  • Small lidded jar, very clean and dry

How to make it

  1. 1

Wash the shells well right after using the eggs, removing all the white inner membrane, as it slows drying and can mold.

  2. 2

Let the shells dry in the sun or in an airy spot for 1 to 2 days — or put them in a low oven (120 °C) for 10 minutes to speed it up and sterilize at the same time.

  3. 3

Grind until it becomes a very fine, velvety powder; the finer it is, the gentler the scrub and the lower the risk of hurting the skin.

  4. 4

Mix the powder with the oil until it becomes a damp little paste — the oil carries the mineral and also leaves the skin soft after the shower.

  5. 5

Test it on your forearm and wait a few hours; if there's no irritation, apply it in the shower, massaging in circular motions over wet skin.

  6. 6

Rinse well and pat dry lightly: the skin will be silky smooth, with no need for extra moisturizer.

Finishing touches

Store the dry powder separately from the oil in a closed jar — it lasts months that way, and you mix it only when using. For a scented version, add a drop of essential oil or a pinch of well-dried ground coffee.
