Idea 2

Aromatic hair spray

Easy 15 min

Between old barbershops and home beauty rituals, there has always been the habit of perfuming hair with aromatic waters made from citrus peels. It works because the tangerine peel holds its volatile oils — light molecules that release aroma even without intense heat.

What you need

  • Chopped peels from 2 tangerines
  • 250 ml of distilled water or boiled and cooled water
  • A clean spray bottle (a repurposed cosmetic one works, well sanitized)
  • A lidded glass jar
  • A strainer or coffee filter

How to make it

  1. 1

Place the chopped peels in the jar with the distilled or boiled water — using impurity-free water is essential because the spray goes straight onto your hair.

  2. 2

Cover and let it rest for 24 hours in a cool spot, so the cold maceration extracts the aroma without destroying the oils.

  3. 3

Strain the mixture well and transfer it to the clean spray bottle, avoiding little bits that could clog the nozzle.

  4. 4

Store in the fridge and test a little on your inner arm before first use, waiting a few hours to check for any irritation.

  5. 5

Spray from a distance onto dry or damp hair, from top to bottom, to perfume it and give a light freshness throughout the day.

Finishing touches

Shake before each use to even out the aroma. If you want a creamier touch on the hair, add a small spoonful of... no — add nothing: the simpler it is, the longer the spray lasts.
