From the page: Idle wood wants to become a piece
Idea 5
Wood filler made from sawdust and glue
Sawdust mixed with glue is an old woodworking trick: nothing goes unused. The fine sawdust, mixed with adhesive, forms a paste with the same color as the wood that produced it — and so the repair stays almost invisible, better than ready-made commercial fillers, which rarely match the piece.
What you need
- Fine sawdust (from sanding the wood itself)
- White glue or wood glue
- Spatula or old knife
- Fine sandpaper
How to make it
-
1
Gather sawdust from wood of the same species as the piece — that is what guarantees a similar color.
-
2
Mix it with glue until it becomes a firm paste, like dry modeling clay.
-
3
Press the paste into the holes, cracks, or openings, pushing well so no air stays inside.
-
4
Let it dry (a few hours to a day, depending on thickness).
-
5
Sand until level with the surface and finish like the rest of the piece.
Finishing touches
for wood that will be exposed to rain, prefer waterproof glue; it also works to fill small gaps between boards.
