Tinted glass jars to decorate the wall
Tinting glass with varnish and color is an old technique of glaziers and artisans, who sought the stained-glass effect without blowing colored glass. It works because the paint or dye diluted in a transparent vehicle adheres to the smooth surface of the glass and lets the light pass through, creating depth and shine.
What you need
- Clean, dry jars and preserving glasses
- Universal paint dye or colored acrylic paint
- Colorless acrylic varnish or white glue (for the matte version)
- Soft brush or cotton swab
- Cardboard or newspaper to protect the workbench
How to make it
-
1
Wash the glasses with warm water and soap and dry them well, because any grease prevents the paint from adhering to the glass.
-
2
Mix a few drops of dye into the colorless varnish until you reach the desired color; the more dye, the more opaque the effect becomes.
-
3
Apply the mixture to the inside or outside of the glass with smooth strokes, covering the whole surface without leaving drips.
-
4
Let it dry upside down on cardboard for a few hours, so the excess runs off and the layer stays even.
-
5
Apply a second coat if you want a more intense color, letting the first one dry well between coats.
-
6
Hang the glasses or rest them on a shelf on the repaired wall, creating a composition of color and light against the new background.
Finishing touches
Use small candles inside the glasses for a warm light effect, or a strand of raffia around the rim for a rustic feel.
