From the page: The t-shirt has many chapters ahead
Idea 1
No-sew t-shirt bag
Fabric bags have existed for as long as commerce has, but the no-sew version became a hit at swap meets and sustainable fairs. The secret lies in the fabric itself: t-shirt knit has an "open" weave that stretches and holds weight without fraying, so you just need to cut with precision and the piece is practically born ready.
What you need
- Cotton t-shirt (the thicker, the more resistant)
- Fabric scissors or sharp scissors
- Chalk or pencil for marking
- Ruler for measuring
- The t-shirt's own sleeves (they become the handles)
How to make it
-
1
Cut the sleeves off the t-shirt close to the seam — they'll be the handles, and knit doesn't fray, so no hem needed.
-
2
Also cut the collar, making a deeper "U" — the bigger the opening, the easier to put things inside the bag.
-
3
Turn the t-shirt inside out and mark a straight line on the hem, about 2 inches above the bottom fold.
-
4
Make vertical cuts, from bottom to top, along the entire hem, about 1 inch apart — these are the "fringes" that will be tied together.
-
5
Now tie each front fringe to its corresponding back fringe with two firm knots — the tension of the knots closes the base and distributes the weight of your shopping.
-
6
Turn it right side out and done: the double layer of fabric held everything together without a single stitch.
Finishing touches
The heavier the t-shirt, the more weight the bag holds — perfect for the farmers market. If you want a prettier finish, cut the fringes diagonally or paint a stamp with fabric paint.
