From the page: Used coffee grounds: far beyond the cup
Idea 5
Homemade body scrub
Exfoliating is an ancient ritual: Turkish baths and Roman spas already used rough particles to renew the skin. Coffee grounds work because they have irregular granules that mechanically sweep away dead cells, while the caffeine and the bean's natural oils stay on the skin.
What you need
- Wet or dry coffee grounds (from one or two pots of drip coffee)
- 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar or coarse salt (boosts exfoliation)
- 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, olive oil, or another cooking oil
- Glass jar with lid
How to make it
-
1
Spread the grounds on a plate and let them dry for a few hours, or use them right away if you'll use the scrub the same day — dried grounds last longer in the jar and don't mold.
-
2
Mix the grounds with the sugar — sugar is a second exfoliant that dissolves gradually, softening the friction.
-
3
Add the oil little by little until it becomes a damp paste that doesn't run — the oil carries the coffee's compounds and leaves the skin lubricated.
-
4
Store in the closed glass jar, away from moisture — with no water inside, the product lasts up to two weeks in the fridge.

In the shower, apply in circular motions over damp skin and rinse well — the circular motion activates local circulation.
Finishing touches
Apply the mixture on thighs and bottom with firm motions for a more intense firming effect. If you want an extra aroma, drop a few drops of vanilla or a pinch of cinnamon powder into the paste.
