From the page: Your tangerine still has one more shine to give

Idea 3

Tangerine-infused oil

Easy 15 min

Infusing oils with citrus peels is an old practice of apothecaries and countryside grandmothers, who left peels in the sun to extract their essential oils. Tangerine peel is full of limonene, an aromatic compound that gives fragrance, light shine, and helps give hair that "final touch."

What you need

  • Peels from 3 to 4 tangerines (well washed, no mold)
  • A base vegetable oil (coconut, sunflower, or almond)
  • A lidded glass jar
  • A fine strainer and a dark bottle for storage

How to make it

  1. 1

Wash the peels well and dry them with a clean cloth — any leftover moisture can ruin the infusion before it even starts.

  2. 2

Cut the peels into small pieces and place them in the glass jar, covering everything with the chosen oil; the oil is the vehicle that will draw the aromatic compounds out of the peel.

  3. 3

Cover and leave in a warm, bright spot for 1 to 2 weeks, shaking the jar once a day — gentle heat speeds up extraction.

  4. 4

Strain with the sieve, pressing the peels well, and transfer to the dark bottle, which protects the oil from light and extends its shelf life.

Finishing touches

Apply a few drops to the mid-length and ends as a finishing product, or gently warm a little of the oil for a pre-shampoo oil treatment. Store away from sunlight and use within 2 months.
