From the page: Leftover chocolate, sweet possibilities
Idea 7
Homemade chocolate milk mix
Powdered chocolate drink mix became an industrial product in the twentieth century, but mixing cocoa into milk is a much older tradition — and making your own version at home puts you back in control of the sugar. Leftover chocolate processed with sugar becomes a powder that dissolves in hot milk, and cocoa's natural fat makes the drink creamier than any envelope mix.
What you need
- Leftover chocolate (fully dried and with no fillings)
- Sugar or brown sugar
- Cocoa powder (optional, to deepen the color)
- Blender
How to make it
-
1
Make sure the leftovers are dry and free of fruit or liqueur fillings — moisture makes the powder clump and go moldy.
-
2
Pulse the chocolate in the blender until it becomes a fine powder.
-
3
Mix with sugar in a ratio of 2 parts chocolate to 1 part sugar (adjust to taste).
-
4
Store in a sealed jar and serve 2 tablespoons per glass of milk, hot or cold, stirring well.
Finishing touches
A pinch of cinnamon or instant coffee turns the mix into homemade "mocha."
