Cable protector and organizer
In electronics workshops, technicians have always wrapped tape and fabric around wires to keep the insulation from cracking with constant bending. The cotton sock works by the same principle: it absorbs friction and distributes tension, protecting the cable from aggressive bends that break it from the inside.
- A sock with a hole preferably cotton, without overly large holes
- Scissors
- Electrical tape or a piece of elastic
Homemade painting paint
The eggshell is basically calcium carbonate, the same mineral that for centuries has served as a white "filler" in paints and plasters, as in the tradition of gesso and old wall plaster. When ground very fine and mixed with a binder diluted glue, it becomes a matte, good-coverage paint that applies naturally over paper, wood and clay walls.
- Clean eggshells from 6 to 10 eggs
- Common white glue school type
- Water
Party-style disc ball
In the 1970s, dance floors spun under balls covered in mirrors, which fragmented light into thousands of glittering dots. The CD has the same magic: its recorded surface works as a diffraction grating, breaking light into rainbows. With dozens of cut discs, you recreate this effect with what you already have at home.
- 10 to 15 old CDs or DVDs
- Strong scissors or cutting pliers
- Styrofoam ball, papier-mâché ball or light plastic ball 10 to 20 cm
Wall clock face
The vinyl record became a classic of handmade wall clocks, and the CD follows the same logic in compact form: it is round, rigid, with a ready-made center hole — exactly where the clock mechanism fits. The reflective surface still bounces the room's light, giving the clock a discreet shimmer of movement.
- 1 CD or DVD in good condition
- Quartz clock mechanism kit with hands, sold at hardware and craft stores
- Hot glue or epoxy glue
Table mirror
Small mirrors on supporting bases have accompanied dressing tables since the perfume bottles of the last century, bringing depth and luminosity to dark corners. The CD's recorded surface reflects like a dark mirror, and the rainbow sheen of the protective layer gives a retro air that matches vintage decor.
- 1 CD or DVD in good condition no deep scratches on the shiny part
- A jar lid, thick cork or small wooden base
- Strong glue epoxy or hot glue
Grow rosemary and aloe vera
Rosemary is a Mediterranean shrub that stores essential oils in its leaves — that's why it withstands sun and drought, and that's why it is beloved in hair rinses. Aloe vera is a succulent whose leaves store gel full of water and mucilage, that viscous substance that hydrates and forms a protective film over hair and scalp.
- A pot at least 30 cm deep with holes in the bottom rosemary and a shallow pot with draina…
- Regular soil mixed with coarse sand or perlite half and half to ensure drainage
- A rosemary sprout or seedling and an aloe leaf or pup ask someone who already grows them…
